NIWF ACTIVITIES
Organizational Development (OD) is one of the main activities of NIWF that encompasses its own and member’s organizational development. The OD activities focus on enhancing organizational skills, formulation of policy and procedure, restructuring system management and practicing good governance. Similarly, it has been carrying out local national and international lobby and advocacy activities to promote the rights of indigenous women. In local and national level, NIWF is raising awareness on identity of indigenous women and empowering them through training, orientation, workshop, media advocacy etc.

These activities are being conducted under the project of “Empowerment and Inclusion of Indigenous Women (EIJW)” with the objective of enhancing social inclusion of Indigenous Women in the national mainstream and the project is supported by DANIDA, HUGOU. The project has been implementing its activities in the national and local level in Bardiya, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Dolpa, Palpa, Ramechhap, Rashuwa, Rupandehi, Morang and Nawalparasi. The project adopts a rights of indigenous women in the national mainstream through organizational development process, capacity building trainings and advocacy programs.

Focusing on the constitution making process and Indigenous Women’s Rights, NIWF has been conducting national and district level awareness programs on Constitution Assembly under the project “Empowerment of Indigenous Women in the Process Inclusive Democracy and Restructuring  of the Nation” supported by AED and “Participatory Constitution Building in Nepal (SPCBN) Civil Society Outreach for Constitutional Assembly Submission” supported by UNDP in 27 districts at 135 VDCs. NIWF is oriented to develop the networking in international level in this regard it organized regional level (Asia) training on Indigenous Women Leadership Development and Decision Making Training and hosted the Regional (Asia) Indigenous Development Conference in the support of AIPP.

NIWF has prepared policy, procedure (Personnel Policy, Financial Policy, Administrative Policy, Good Governance, Monitoring and Evaluation Policy) and guidelines of NIWF to operational policy and procedures. These policies and procedures are applied to NIWF and its member organizations as well as to ensure good governance. Previously Conducted Activities:
  • Actively participated in national and international conferences and meetings related with ethnic and indigenous issues.
  • Launching awareness programs on education, legal rights and human rights.
  • Training programs conducted on gender sensitization, income generation and self-development skills etc.
  • Cultural exhibition and cultural shows in different occasions are conducted.
  • Organized honor programs for the distinguished indigenous personalities of different fields.
  • Regular celebration of Indigenous Day August 9th.
  • Participate actively in the "Educating for All" program launched by the Ministry of Education during the 10th Five Year Plan.
  • Organized traditional skill development programs.
  • TOT programs in Adult Education.
  • Conduction training in Mass Communication, Radio/TV Anchoring.
  • TOT programs in making pickles, jams, jellies and sauces given to members of the Magar Women Organization, Sunuwar Women Society and Newar Women Organization.
  • Conducted regular seminar & workshops to impart awareness of the activities of different indigenous women: Sherpa women and mountaineering, Role of Indigenous women in modern society, Role of Indigenous women in politics, in education and in civic society.
  • NIWF-Nepal gives training for making compost organic fertilizers and generates awareness of clean and healthy environment.
